Known for being the first London pub to be awarded a Michelin star in 2010, the Harwood Arms is one of London’s real gems. Cooking food straight from the wild, the simple but rustic pub serves a truly British menu. It also offers a lively atmosphere and offers events such as quiz nights.

Location – The Peasant, 240 St John street, London EC1V 4PH

Thought to be at the forefront of the gastro revolution, The Peasent is filled with character from top to bottom. The pub offers two different menus, a la carte for the dining room and a lighter one at the bar. The dining room is perfect to enjoy a long lunch.

Location – 99 Bermondsey St, London SE1 3XB

The rustic and quirky Garrison offers less room for standing up beer lovers than it does for the sitting down wine admirer. Despite its minor problem, the pub offers great food and a cosy atmosphere in the heart of a creative area.

Location – 27 Coldharbour, London, E14 9NS

Based on the riverside, The Gun is a great place to spend your time in, especially in the summer. Not only does it offer good British food, but in the summer time the al fresco Portuguese BBQ is something not to miss.

Running closely behind the gastro pubs named above are the Drapers Arms in Islington and The Ship in Wandsworth on the banks of the Thames by Wandsworth Bridge.
